Keep your Canine cool this Summer

The summer sunshine makes for a lot of fun outdoors, but it’s important to make sure your pup is comfortable during the heat. Here are a few tips for┬ákeeping your dog happy and healthy this summer!

Extra Hydration

Make sure your dog has access to plenty of water this summer.
Swims are a great way to cool off, but be careful not to let your pup’s body temperature change too quickly when jumping in, it could make things worse. Having them wet their feet first is a good way to cool their body temperature slowly.
Some more good ideas include adding a few ice cubes to their water bowl or making some frozen doggy ice blocks!
Taking a collapsible bowl and some water on walks is a good trick to make sure your pup stays hydrated while out and about.

Avoiding the Heat

Adjusting your schedule a bit can make walks and playtime a much cooler experience. Mornings and evenings are the best times to avoid the peak heat of the sun during the day.
If this isn’t an option, avoiding hot concrete and roads during walks can make the experience much more enjoyable for your pooch. This is to avoid their toes getting burnt.

Provide a Wet Blanket

This is a particularly good way to help cool off. Putting a damp towel in the freezer for a little while is a great way to give your pup something cold during the heat of the day. Putting it over their stomach or head is extra effective at cooling them down.

We hope you and your pooch stay happy and healthy this summer!
